On Hard Work
I’ve noticed that a lot of online training programs seem to be full of features and sometimes even benefits in their advertisements. They talk about how they do such and such nutritional counseling. They have XX number of “secret methods to drop your body fat”. Many of them even promise some sort of grand epiphany.
That may actually all be true, except for the secret methods. Unless they’re a truly special human being, there aren’t a whole lot of new training methods to be found under the sun. My point and problem isn’t actually with what they’re promising. It’s with what they’re not mentioning: Hard damn work.
Do you want to lose 20 pounds? Get ready to work.
Do you want to gain 25 pounds of muscle? Strap on the fork and grab the chalk.
Do you want to be so damn fast and strong that people just hand you the pigskin? Better warm up well.
I’m a firm believer in working smarter than most. I always seek the most effective, efficient, and safest method for my clients to find the success that they’re coming to me for. However, I also make sure to tell them that they are there to work, and it doesn’t come easy.
Too often I see programs, products, and supplements that are promising great results with minimal effort. This is a symptom of American culture, and it’s not just the fitness industry. That just happens to be the industry I reside in.
Look, the body is designed to reach homeostasis. In that I mean that your body doesn’t like to change. Evolutionary protocol indicates that stability is safety, and that change is frequently bad. So, unless the body is pushed somehow, it’s going to stay exactly how it is. So what makes you think that your body will drastically change without some sort of drastic measure?
Are anabolic steroids magic pills, powders, or oils that will make you huge and ripped? Nope. You still have to eat and train well. They do facilitate the process (anyone that says that they don’t is lying to you), but you then trade that help for the various side effects. After a base level, the side effects rise with the help granted, like anything.
Want to lose bodyfat without really dieting or training? There’s DNP… until your body heat goes so high that your cells die, you die, and maybe the stuff explodes in your cabinet.
This has been a bit of a rant, but I’ve spent most of the morning poking around online looking at this type of stuff and I’m pissed off.
